I was randomly assigned as a roommate to Paul, Eggy's brother, in the Freshman Dorm at Wheaton College during my first year as a student there. I lived off campus with the Egeland family during my sophomore year. Through this contact I got to know Eggy a bit over the subsequent years. I was stunned to hear of his death via a voice note from Paul on Firday. (I live in South Africa.)
I never know what to say at times like this--and words are never adequate--but to say nothing seems so distant and cold. My heart aches for the surviving members of Eggy's immediate and extended family. The world is several decibels quieter and less humorous since his passing.
