John "Johnny" W. Lamb's Obituary
LAMB, John “Johnny” W., a true gentleman, age 75, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, November 17 at the Kettering Medical Center.
Johnny was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He spent most of his service time in Alaska. He worked more than 20 years for Possert Construction in Dayton as a carpenter. Following his official retirement, he worked several more years at the Der Dutchman restaurant in Waynesville performing maintenance work. Johnny was a devoted member of the Corwin Pentecostal Church for over 30 years. He loved singing in church and assisting with the youth group that involved visiting caves and hiking, among other things.
Loving, kind, and gentle, Johnny was known for being friendly to others and his caring smile. He greatly enjoyed painting unique wooden barn quilts, attending Waynesville Spartans football games, listening to bluegrass music, and gardening. He raised tomato plants from seeds in his greenhouse and either gave them away to friends and family or sold them. He was well known for the tomatoes he grew in his garden as some of the largest and most delicious around. As a result of his experience and time of serving in the Army in Alaska, he coordinated cruise to Alaska with friends and family. He also coordinated several bus trips, which were always special memories for him. The time he spent coaching his daughters’ church camp teams in softball and volleyball were always some of the highlights of his life involving his personal family members. Among many things, he will always be remembered for the delicious pumpkin pies he made and for the breakfasts he prepared for his family on Saturday mornings.
He was preceded in death by his parents Acy and Blanche Lamb Sr.; four brothers Rev. Walter Lamb, Rev. Acy W. Lamb Jr., Anthony Lamb, and Sutton Lamb; and four sisters Lucille Henry, Effie Patton, Marilyn Thompson, and Velma Lamb. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie; two daughters Tara (James) McCoy and Kimberly Lamb; three grandchildren Daniel (Alexis) McCoy, Hannah (Isaiah) Huffman, and Sarah (Bryan) Morris; and one sister Ramona (John) Sackett.
The family will receive friends 10 AM - 12 PM Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Corwin Pentecostal Church. To reduce the number of people seated within the church at the same time, the family is requesting that the funeral service be reserved for close friends and family, which will be held 12 PM Saturday at the church. Phillip Hoskins and Wendal Lamb will be officiating. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
