John L. Leyes' Obituary
LEYES, John L., age 86, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Atrium Medical Center in Middletown.
John graduated from Harveysburg High School, class of ’58. He retired in 2001 from Micafil Inc. after 28 years of service. He first attended Church of Christ in Waynesville and was later a member of Fellowship of Praise Church in Clarksville.
Reserved and quiet, John was a deep thinker that sometimes made him seem intimidating. He was fantastic with numbers and math. He could easily compute equations, fractions, or percentages in his head. All of these traits helped him become an excellent carpenter, plumber, and machine builder. He could easily do any electrical work as well. He remodeled three homes all by himself and built numerous decks. In addition, he enjoyed cutting firewood and shooting targets with his son-in-law, Mike, at a private club.
He was the patriarch of the family. He, along with his wife, would always host family gatherings during the holidays. They always looked forward to the events because close to 30 people would regularly attend. When their children were young, they created fond memories during the many camping and fishing trips to Rocky Fork Lake and other weekend destinations. Trips to Amish Country in Philadelphia, St. Augustine in Florida, and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina will always be remembered as some of the best family memories from years ago. He was very proud to raise his standards of livelihood in his lifetime. He was very proud of the stability he found in his family and financially. He shared those traits with his children and grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. Among many things, John will be remembered for the love and pride he had for his family and his incredible remodeling skills.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie, in 2020; mother, Dorothy (Clarence) Hall; half-brother, Clarence Hall Jr; and half-sister, Joann Crowe. He is survived by his son, Chris (Pam) Leyes; two daughters, Robyn Leyes-Latchford and Andrea Leyes (Mike Samendinger); seven grandchildren, Susan, Jennifer, Kenley, Gabriel, Ryan, Jessica, and Kirsten; 13 great-grandchildren and one on-the-way; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 14, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Joe Shutts will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends 6 – 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
