John "J.C." C. Mitchell's Obituary
MITCHELL, John “J.C.” C., age 88, of Okeechobee, Florida, and formerly of Waynesville, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at his residence in Florida.
J.C. honorably served in the United States Army in the late 1950s. He founded Mitchell’s Plumbing in Waynesville and ultimately retired in 1997 after nearly 50 years of plumbing work for the community. J.C. was always proud of his work while serving the community of Waynesville.
Caring and giving, J.C. found significant serenity and joy in fishing. While living in Ohio, he fished in multiple locations but especially enjoyed Rocky Fork Lake, Caesar Creek State Park, Lake Erie for Walleye, and Michigan. His late wife and his son would often join him on the outings, which became a bit of a tradition. He ultimately moved to Okeechobee, so he could enjoy fishing the waters of Lake Okeechobee. His son continued the tradition of fishing with his dad during the Christmas and New Year holidays. J.C. also enjoyed hunting and gardening. While he maintained a big garden in Ohio, he focused on tomatoes and Vidalia onions while living in Florida. He was always proud that he could grow large and extremely sweet onions in his backyard in the humid weather of Florida. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love of oysters and anything he grew in the garden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva, in 1992; his parents, Perry and Cecil Mitchell; and four sisters, Faye Smith, Dorothy Bush, Lucy Parsons, and Marie Wells. He is survived by his significant other, Jean Walters; son, John (Sara) Mitchell; daughter, Lisa (Curt) Deaton; five grandchildren, Angela (Jim) Roush, Amanda Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, Brandon (Katie) Deaton, and Jillian Deaton; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jesse (Doris) Mitchell and Perry (Marsha) Mitchell Jr.; and three sisters, Addie Kirkpatrick, Betty Jo Dick, and Sue (Ronnie) Milby.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 6, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Celebrant Katie Mackoway will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
