Johnny E. Griswold's Obituary
GRISWOLD, Johnny E., age 55, of Oregonia, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022, at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.
Johnny graduated from Clinton Massie High School, class of ’85. He worked for nearly 30 years for TUF-TUG in Moraine.
Funny, outgoing, friendly, independent, and witty, Johnny loved to joke around with his friends and could be stubborn in a fun way. As a child, he had a fantastic memory for nursery rhymes, which led to an uncanny memory for reciting United States historical facts and documents. He greatly enjoyed US history and could ramble off the significant parts of the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights from memory during a conversation. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle for many years and taking trips with his wife and friends on the bike. In later years, the grandchildren loved when he took them rides on his mower. In addition, Johnny always appreciated the mechanics of his automobiles and enjoyed working on his truck. As an excellent billiards player, one of his greatest passions was playing pool with friends regularly, both for the competition and skill of the game and the social aspect with the guys. Growing up, it became a tradition with his mom and family to travel to Disney World in Florida in a Winnebago, ultimately taking the scenic route up the coast on the way home. They spent a couple of those years taking his grandparents along on the trip to enjoy their company, which led to a greater bond with them and lasting memories. Once he got married, he enjoyed trips to Tennessee with his wife and kids. The Tennessee trip would sometimes turn into a classic Griswold vacation with all the antics and mishaps that often came along, which he found entertaining with the Griswold name. It was also a tradition for Johnny to host a large 4th of July party during the summers, where he would invite numerous family and friends for a huge party. In addition, he always loved giving out candy to the neighbor kids during Halloween and hosting Christmas each season. Christmas was never complete until he enjoyed his mother’s scalloped potatoes. Some of his fondest memories were of the glory days in high school at Clinton Massie. He participated in weight lifting, basketball, football, and especially track and spent the weekends with his friends. His high school class was exceptionally close to one another and remained close throughout his life. He spoke of those memories often and looked back on those days as some of his most memorable.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Burton, and the father who raised him, Marvin Griswold. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Becky; his mother, Pat Griswold; four children, Dakota Lee Griswold, Melissa (David) Lindsey, Amanda (Travis) Burris, and Lana (Alister) McKenzie; eight grandchildren, Kayla (Zach) Nichols, Merri Lindsey, Abbi Lindsey, Jacob Burris, Preston Burris, Isabelle Willett, and twins Ayden and Wyatt McKenzie; his sister, Stephanie Morgan; and many extended family members and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 23, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Pastor Jim Wilson will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
