Judith "Judy" C. Sexton's Obituary
SEXTON, Judith “Judy” C., age 72, of Monroe and formerly of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Judy graduated from Lebanon High School, class of 68. In the late ’70s, she attended D Russell Lee, learning secretarial skills while working as a waitress and caring for her young daughters as a single Mom. She was a hardworking, intelligent, and driven lady, and by 1983 she was proud to be able to buy a house for herself and her daughters. Judy worked as an Executive Secretary for the State of Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission. She received many acknowledgments and certificates of achievement for her contributions to the agency before retiring in 2010 after 29 years of service.
Judy was a very independent woman and was supportive of her family. She was actually quite shy and quiet until you knew her, then her friendly, witty, loving, funny, caring personality shined brightly. Judy was a lifelong learner. She loved to read, especially medical books and magazines. She also loved movies and going to garage sales.
Family was very important to Judy; she loved spending time with her daughters and siblings and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. One of her most significant priorities was ensuring her kids had opportunities and supporting them in all aspects of their lives. Even as a single mother, she took her daughters to Kings Island several times a year and ensured they attended summer camp. Judy liked to take trips and had several vacations to Tennessee with her daughters and grandchildren, as well as many shorter excursions around Ohio. In 2011, she took a “trip of a lifetime” to Florida with her daughter Karen. They visited Disney World, Daytona Beach, and many other local attractions. Judy enjoyed going out to eat, especially to Cracker Barrel and Hyde’s Restaurant. She was a season ticket holder at La Comedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro. One of her favorite passions was attending musicals with her daughter Christy and her sister Linda. She also enjoyed all types of music and loved attending festivals and concerts in the park, especially smaller venues and local artists like the Menus, where the music experience was more intimate. She loved angels and, over the years, acquired an extensive collection of figurines and pictures, which she displayed proudly throughout her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Marshall and Mary Horsley; granddaughter, Elizabeth Danielle Salley; and two sisters, Martha Spencer and Jeannette Maggard. She is survived by two daughters, Christy (Kelly) Staton and Karen Powell; four grandchildren, Brandon Salley, Erica Staton, Caden Powell, and Chase Powell; one great-granddaughter, Gwen Salley; two twin brothers, Frank and David Marshall; six sisters, Linda (Ronnie) Blackburn (Judy’s sister that was special to her and also her best friend), Mary Louise Caldwell, Jackie (Randy) King, Jeanne (Harry) Dillow, and Sara Frazee; and many nieces and nephews, including her special niece Misty (Keith) Horton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, June 19, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Life Celebrant Katie Mackoway will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM Monday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
