Kenneth R. Harris' Obituary
HARRIS, Kenneth R., age 74, of Sugarcreek Township and formerly of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital.
Kenneth graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Boston University and continued his education to receive his master’s of business from the Munich branch of Boston University. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1979 during the Vietnam War. During the war, he was based in Germany because of his knowledge of the Russian and Arabic languages. For most of his life, he worked as a civilian contractor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. His patriotism led him to be a life member of the Waynesville American Legion Post 615.
He loved sports of all kinds and was a huge Browns fan all of his life. He played softball in Munich and played in a bowling league. He was an avid golfer and bowler all of his life. He especially enjoyed trying to get a hole in one which he achieved at Holly Hills Golf Course in Waynesville. He continued his golf career on the Sugar Valley Golf Course. He was fond of watching his grandkids play sports as well. Kenneth loved making people laugh and was known for his big laugh, which was contagious. He could be stubborn at times, but it was always in a fun way. He was always very giving and generous to all his family and friends. Kenneth enjoyed traveling, especially when he visited every state in his R.V. He also cherished the numerous trips with Denny to watch NASCAR. One of his more memorable trips was when Kenneth and his family traveled to Epcot for the ‘Beer Around the World’ event. His favorite dinner was pizza with an ice-cold beer, which he looked forward to at Christmas. Kenneth had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude Harris, and one brother, William L. Harris. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca “Becky” Harris; one son, John K. Harris; one daughter, Lyn (Denny) Johnson; five grandchildren, Tyler (Brittany) Johnson, Teika (Hunter) Schmidt, Trevor (Gracie) Johnson, Alexander Harris, and Samantha Harris; and six great-grandchildren, Zechariah, Brooks, Jameson, Darcy, Gunnar, Jaxon, and baby H.W. on the way.
