Larry Alfred Bailey's Obituary
BAILEY, Larry Alfred, age 83, of Waynesville, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Dayton VA Lakeside Manor Hospice.
Larry graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’57. He honorably served in the United States Army as a rifle sharpshooter. He was a 60-year member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #163 and a member of the Scottish Rite.
As a very practical, giving, compassionate, caring gentleman, Larry had an “off the beaten path” personality. Quiet and unique, he had a good sense of humor and was quite the jokester. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed the beauty of the nature surrounding him, from camping and fishing to hunting arrowheads and watching hummingbirds; he savored every minute. When he was younger, he traveled to Canada for fishing, ATV riding, camping, peaceful canoe explorations, and to enjoy the great outdoors scenery. Many times, his trips to Canada would last a month. He was proud of his ATV experience, with over 8,000 hours on his older quad. It became a tradition to host two campouts on the farm each year with his family. In addition, each spring, he looked forward to the family getting together to hunt morel mushrooms, which included camping. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he loved his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Chloe Bailey; one brother Max Bailey; and two half-brothers, Leroy and Gene Bailey. He is survived by two sons, Larry Ray (Mary) Bailey and Leon Bailey; one daughter Clover Anderson; seven grandchildren Michelle (Bobby) Kelly, Jessica Lawson, Trenton Bailey, John (Lily) Anderson, Dallas Bailey, Benji Freytag, and Aaryah Freytag; step-grandson Mark (Hannah) Legg; five great-grandchildren Lilah, Leo, Peyton, Logan, and Victoria; three step-great-grandchildren Caleb, Breanna, and Miley; step-great-great-granddaughter Grace; three brothers Sam (Karen) Bailey, Tom (Rose) Bailey, and Vernon (Linda) Bailey; and former wife, Marlene Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 3 PM – 5 PM on Thursday, September 8, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5 PM at the funeral home. Life Celebrant, Katie Mackoway, will be officiating. After the funeral service, there will be a meal at the Waynesville American Legion Post 615. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
