Larry Murrill's Obituary
MURRILL, Larry, age 74, of Xenia and formerly of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022.
Larry attended Bible College when he was a young man and always followed the Southern Baptist faith. For nearly 30 years, he managed Holly Hills Golf Course in Waynesville. Before his retirement in 1997, he was the first official greenskeeper and club manager at Holly Hills.
Loving, friendly, outgoing, and independent, Larry was a people person and could be ornery in a fun way. Fond of automobiles his entire life, he enjoyed working on cars and performing automotive repair work. He owned pickup trucks his whole life, often trading an old one for a new one and vice versa. In addition, he collected miniature antique cars of some of his favorite models. Raised on a farm in Kentucky, Larry enjoyed vegetable gardening throughout his adulthood due to his farming roots. It was also common for Larry to take his family to Disney World in Florida while his daughter was growing up. The Disney tradition continued when he had grandchildren, which Larry always enjoyed. He and his wife also traveled to Las Vegas many times over the years, always staying on the strip. In addition, Larry’s travel adventures extended to Hawaii one eventful year as part of a work trip. Among many things, he will be remembered for the pride he had in his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Isabella Murrill; three brothers, Ova Murrill, Thomas Murrill Jr., and Ben Murrill; and one sister, Nanny Combs. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine; daughter Stacy (Paul) Chaney; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Chaney, John Chaney, and Brandon Chaney; one great-granddaughter, Evelyn; and one sister, Ilene Koettel.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, December 4, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Dale McCloud will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 1 -3 PM Sunday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
