As a young teen, I helped Sue with the 4 and 5 year olds during Bible school. It was in the basement of the old church. It would be sweltering hot and that little classroom
would be filled with 4 and 5 year olds. We would teach the lesson, sing songs, learn the memory verse and do a craft. Sue always brought a huge bag of assorted items for the craft. I marveled at the fun items in the bag. Buttons, fabric pieces, glitter, and so many other things. When snack time came, the children were grateful for their cup of
kool-aid and two cookies. Sue and I would sip our kool-aid, eat our cookies while we chatted and enjoyed each other’s company.
There was one Bible school time that stands out. Sue had put on the most fragrant, light and flowery perfume. I just thought it was wonderful. A couple nights later she handed me a small wrapped gift. She had bought me a bottle of that lovely perfume. I was so surprised and blessed by her gift to me.
One of Sue’s favorite songs was “Wayfaring Stranger.” I think of it as her signature song. As I played the piano, Sue would give a short testimony before singing.
Her voice and sweet spirit gave that song such meaning and beauty. Some lines of that song say..,.” I’m just going over yonder…”I’m
just going over home. I rejoice that Sue is home….no longer a Wayfaring Stranger. Heaven is now her home. Amen.
