Leroy T. Sanders' Obituary
SANDERS, Leroy T., age 74, of Harveysburg, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Dayton VA Medical Center.
Leroy graduated from Clinton Massie High School, class of ’68. He honorably served in the United States Army in Vietnam and the Air Force Reserves for an additional 23 years. Leroy retired from General Motors-Delco after 30 years of service to the corporation. He volunteered for many years at the the Harveysburg Fire Department - Station 28. A lifelong resident of Harveysburg, Leroy was supportive and volunteered his time with the Historical Society in town.
Caring and fun-loving, Leroy gave his time and would do anything to help family and friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed racing cars. His favorite cars were two Pontiac GTOs and a Pontiac Grand Prix. He loved saying that he made heavy cars drive fast. Also, in his younger days, he enjoyed hunting with his father and siblings. If you knew Leroy, however, you knew that fishing was his ultimate favorite pastime, which he enjoyed every chance he got. He also enjoyed gardening for the fresh vegetables. He had a tradition of getting together with family for reunions and get-togethers regularly. In addition to hosting the get-togethers, he traveled to North Carolina, Maryland, and other locations to visit and reconnect with his family. Among many things, Leroy will be remembered for his contribution to our country, to his hometown of Harveysburg, and to his family. In addition, he will also be remembered for his deep golden voice and his love of eating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Sanders, and two brothers, Charles and Ronnie Sanders. He is survived by his son, Chris Sanders; stepson, Tyree Fields; three brothers, Rick Sanders, William (Lucy) Sanders, and Earl (Tina) Sanders; and two sisters, Marjorie Oliver and Ruth Ann Rosser.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Friday at the funeral home, followed by a committal service at Miami Cemetery with full military honors. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
