Lindley "Lyn" E. Truitt's Obituary
TRUITT, Lindley “Lyn” E., age 73, of Morrow and formerly of Surprise, Arizona, passed away Monday, June 3, 2024, at his residence.
Lyn was the owner and broker of L.E. Truitt & Associates Real Estate Consulting and a Certified International Property Specialist. His career spanned nearly 30 years, during which he worked as a Realtor of commercial and residential properties in Southern Arizona and internationally. In addition, he trained entrepreneurs in small business ownership, management, and operations. He was elected Mayor in Surprise between 2008 and 2012 and served as Surprise Planning and Zoning Committee Chair.
Lyn spent his life volunteering, supporting, and giving to the community and its residents wherever he lived. He participated in neighborhood and community initiatives, supported quality education through leadership and service on several educational-based committees and boards, and volunteered countless hours for the community. Specifically, he was active with the Salvation Army Board, organized annual drives for St. Mary’s Westside Food Bank, and served on the Board of West Valley Art Museum. He was presented the Arizona Golden Rule award for volunteerism by Secretary of State, Jan Brewer.
After moving to Ohio in 2017, he became a member of Rivers Crossing Church in Mason and The Village Church in South Lebanon. Via both church affiliations in Ohio, he became extremely involved with Joshua’s Place. Through Joshua’s Place, he actively supported the food co-op, became a listening ear when community members needed to express their life concerns, and subsequently provided prayer for those individuals in need. Lyn and Sherry also shared a passion for vegetable gardening in the cooler Midwest climate.
Giving, helpful, caring, outgoing, fun-loving, family-oriented, and a friend to all, Lyn had a servant’s heart and a deep faith in God his entire life. In addition, he had a mind for business as an entrepreneur. Over the years, he coached a youth soccer team to two City of Phoenix titles, obtained three scuba diving certifications, and served as a Crew Chief on a hot air balloon team. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, including a trip to England as part of a Christian outreach opportunity. He considered himself a life-long learner, taking classes ranging from Greek to photography. Family-oriented, Lyn also ensured that he had the essentials at his home to provide basic support should his children, grandchildren, and neighbors ever find themselves in need.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna, and his mother, Esther Truitt. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sherry; son, Tim (Nicole) Truitt; daughter, Becky (Justin) Curry; eight grandchildren, Emmy, Matthew, Anabelle, Zoey, Brody, Colton, Carter, and Carly; and four sisters, Nancy (Don) VanderVelde, Carolyn (John) Radice, Gail Zwaan, Kimberly Tuitt and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A celebration of life gathering will be held 6 - 8 PM Tuesday, June 11 at Joshua’s Place, 83 N. Section St., South Lebanon, Ohio 45065. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. In lieu of flowers and in Lyn’s memory, the family encourages donations to Joshua’s Place. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
