Loretta M. Stockstill's Obituary
STOCKSTILL, Loretta M., age 91, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Austin Trace Health and Rehabilitation in Washington Township.
Loretta graduated from Sidney High School, class of ’52. She earned her RN degree from Miami Valley School of Nursing in 1956. She was a devoted nurse, dedicating over 25 years of service to Miami Valley Hospital before her retirement in 1991. She carried a deep sense of compassion into her work, caring for countless patients throughout her career. Over the years, she enjoyed getting together with the nursing school alumni regularly. Loretta was a faithful member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Springboro, where her faith and community were an important part of her life.
Loretta found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life. She enjoyed genealogy and took pride in researching her family tree, preserving memories for generations to come. She also loved gardening and cross-stitching, hobbies that reflected her patience and creativity. Known for her caring and gentle nature, Loretta had a quiet strength about her that brought comfort to those around her. She cherished time with her family, especially during holiday gatherings, where hosting Christmas Eve and other celebrations became a beloved tradition. Among many things, Loretta will be remembered for her gentle heart, her devotion to family, and the warmth she brought to every gathering.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Stockstill, in 2002; her parents, Clifford and Helen Shatto; and her brother, Donald Shatto. She is survived by her two sons, Daniel (Darlene) Stockstill and David (Julia) Stockstill; her three daughters, Diane (James) Dingle, Joyce (Anthony) Stuart, and Brenda Berry; her 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Steven Shatto.
A private graveside will be later in the spring at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
