Louis E. Hernandez's Obituary
HERNANDEZ, Louis E., age 82, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Louis was born July 29, 1942, in Sinton, Texas, to Fernando and Rogelia Hernandez. He graduated from Sinton High School, class of ’63. He honorably served three years in the United States Army and was a Waynesville American Legion Post 615 member. He loved volunteering at legion events, especially the Sauerkraut Festival. He retired in 2003 from Kroger after 28 years of service. He was an active member of UFCW Union 75 for 40 years and volunteered at many events.
Kindhearted, he loved his children and grandchildren, and had a special bond with his wife. He was the most loving man you would ever meet. He supported his grandchildren in all their sporting events; rain or shine, he would be there. Oftentimes, he would get ready and ask his wife, “Where are we going today?” excited about what grandchild they would watch. He made himself available 24-7 day or night if anyone ever needed help, there were no questions asked, he would always be there. Always humble and unselfish, he was always doing for others and never wanting anyone to fuss over him.
When he was younger, he appreciated golf outings and even collected golf balls. He secretly had a travel bug; unbeknownst to many, he traveled to South America and many places in the United States. Louis loved taking pictures and was quite good at it. He immensely enjoyed woodworking and created beautiful furniture and ramps around the house. Being in the yard was his happy place. He loved working outside, from cutting down trees to caring for his vast garden. Christmas was his time to shine, and he loved trying to outdo the Griswolds. Each year, he wanted to make it even better than the year before, even if that meant a few blown fuses. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love he shared for his wife, kids, and grandchildren and for watching Gunsmoke and Hallmark episodes at night.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Candido, Rodolfo, Jesus, and Oscar; and two sisters, Geoveva and Adelina Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Linda; two sons, Dean (Kelly) Hernandez of Galena and Alan Hernandez of Hilliard; two step-daughters, Vanessa (Benjamin) Stone of Waynesville and Karen Laymaster (Brian) of Madison; one step-son, Max Laymaster of Waynesville; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Fernando (Bea) Hernandez of Sinston, Texas, George (Minga) Hernandez of Sinton, Texas, and Homer Hernandez of Annaville, Texas; and one sister Alicia Alonzo of Arlington, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday, October 25, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:30 PM on Friday at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle. Pastor Tom will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help his grandson in research for Angelman Syndrome at the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) www.cureangelman.org.
