Margaret Ann Overbee's Obituary
OVERBEE, Margaret Ann, age 89, of Waynesville, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Ohio Living Quaker Heights in Waynesville.
Margaret was born and raised in Jep Hill, Kentucky, in Rock Castle County. She attended Eastern Kentucky University and dedicated her career to education, teaching in five different one-room schoolhouses throughout Rockcastle County. Teaching children was not just her vocation, but her calling, and she took great pride in nurturing young minds with patience and love.
In her free time, Margaret treasured anything that brought her closer to family. Any family gathering, big or small, was a joy to her, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among her simple pleasures were weekly trips to have her hair done, gardening, admiring beautiful flowers, especially peonies, and watching birds. Over the years, her son gifted her bird figurines for holidays and birthdays, creating a cherished collection that always brought a smile to her face. She also valued the friendships she built and maintained over decades, enjoying meaningful connections with friends dating back to 1964.
She was a devoted member of Waynesville First Baptist Church, where her faith guided every part of her life. Margaret had a lifelong passion for teaching children and faithfully served her church as a teacher in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her Christian faith was evident in her kind spirit, warm smile, and caring heart, and she was known as an upbeat, gentle soul who loved encouraging others. Among many things, Margaret will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her passion for teaching children, and the boundless love she had for her family. What she was most proud of in her life was her family, whom she cherished deeply.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Overbee, in 1964; her parents, Luther and Allie Mullins; her three brothers, Jim Mullins, Bill Mullins, and Frank Mullins; and her four sisters, Una Bishop, Daisy Lindsay, Ethel Mullins, and Dorothy Mullins. She is survived by her son, Charles (Lisa “Joy”) Overbee; her three grandchildren, Charles Thomas (Elissa) Overbee, Christopher (Tara Amburgy) Overbee, and Joseph (Jamie) Overbee; her seven great-grandchildren, Easton Overbee, Cason Overbee, Lyndley Sharpe, Barrett Overbee, Kennedy Overbee, Kiley Roa, and Jayden Roa; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Pastor Roger Dale McCloud will be officiating.
