Marion M. Greene's Obituary
GREENE, Marion M., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, age 100, of Lebanon, was granted her angel wings Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at her residence.
Marion was born to Frank and Lucille Sanker in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 18, 1920. She was a veteran of the United States Army. From Goose Bay, Labrador, she served her country honorably in WWII, during a time when women in the military were quite the exception. It was during this time in the military that she met the love of her life, Norman. She was a member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Lebanon.
Sweet, giving, and personable, Marion loved her family and friends deeply and was deeply loved by them. She was a classic example of what a fine lady is considered. She showed her love to friends and family with her cooking and baking. If guests came over, she always insisted that they eat before leaving, even during her later years when she couldn’t physically do it herself anymore. Among her many kitchen delectables, her poppyseed bread and breakfast pecan rolls will always be remembered as her some of her best. She loved nature and enjoyed flower gardening and raising Monarch butterflies from eggs and caterpillars. In addition and many years ago, she started a bluebird trail at Possum Creek Nature Reserve, which still exists today. Along with her husband, they started a vineyard and sold wine from 1974 - 1991 under the name of “Colonial Vineyards.” Her other hobbies included quilting and collecting hummel figurines and teacups. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she loved hosting Sunday dinners, all of the holiday get-togethers with family, and birthday parties. Her family gatherings were always perfectly prepared for each holiday and event, whereby she exhibited immense love and affection for all involved via her cooking. How she showed love to others and through her love of nature became a family tradition and has been passed down from one generation to the next.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in 2013; great-grandson Michael Bolton; her parents; her sister Norma Ostman; and son-in-law James Bolton. She is survived by three daughters Norma (David) Humphreys, Suzanne Bolton, and Jane Greene (spouse Daniel Fish); son Michael (Rema) Greene; foster daughter Connie Laycox; foster son Charles (Connie) Loving; three grandchildren Sandra (Charles) Ednie, Adrian Morales, and Daniel Greene; and great-grandson Benjamin.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Sunday, November 14 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Celebrant Katie Mackoway will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends 12 PM - 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
