Martha M. Younker's Obituary
YOUNKER, Martha M., age 85, of Xenia, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital.
Loving, friendly, helpful, and nurturing, Martha was family-oriented her entire life and was described by friends and family as having a sweet persona. She greatly enjoyed quilting, working puzzles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook and especially enjoyed preparing the southern favorites. Her yeast rolls, fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade pies will never be forgotten. She had a tradition of visiting her sister in Florida each summer, which she always looked forward to. In addition, she took great pride in hosting Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a New Year’s dinner for the family each year. Her pride and joy was her family, so she always insisted that her kids and grandkids had a beautiful homemade cake each year for their birthday, which became another tradition that she always made perfect. She loved cardinals, which she always referred to as red birds, and enjoyed collecting items to decorate parts of her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 2009; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Angel Younker; and infant daughter, Mildred Ellen; grandson, Vernon Younker Jr.; her parents, William and Ellen Pennington; and two brothers, Frank and Richard Pennington. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rachel (David) Hilbig; 12 grandchildren, James, Samantha, Derrick, Curtis, Mark, Dylan, Emily, Katy, Spencer, Alex, Ralph, and Sebastian; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie (Carol) Pennington; and five sisters, Edna Mae (Richard) Markland, Louise (Cecil) Smith, Wilma Jean (Joe) Wallace, Cathy Blake, and Eileen Stamper.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, November 16, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon - 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
