Mary R. Carter's Obituary
CARTER, Mary R., age 83, of Waynesville, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021.
Mary graduated from Jefferson High School in Ohio. She was a member of Heritage Christian Church in Centerville and attended Crossview Christian Church in Waynesville for many years. She worked as a driver’s education instructor for over 10 years, which she enjoyed immensely. She also cleaned houses as a side job, but mainly because she enjoyed that so much as well.
Active, ornery, funny, very likable, loving, and always the life of the party, Mary greatly enjoyed being outside by swimming in her pool and gardening. Both flower and vegetable gardening became a favorite pastime, and the time spent snapping beans, canning vegetables, and picking berries will always be fond memories of Mary cherished by the family. In addition, she played softball for many years, mainly in church leagues. Recently, she reorganized chair volleyball for the less mobile at Crossview Christian Church. Some of her fondest memories included the many trips and adventures to Florida and other locals with her friends. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, shopping for bargains at yard sales, and for how much she enjoyed dressing nice. Mary always looked sharp, and especially enjoyed finding her nicely matched attire on sale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, in 2018; a son Philip Dean Carter; her parents Estel and Ruth Spurgeon; and four sisters Dorothy Woods, Wilma Blessing, Jody Cameron, and Janet Neeld. She is survived by her son Kenny (Carol) Carter; three grandchildren Daniel Carter, Tracey (Randy) Wical, and Rachel Carter (Eric); and four great grandchildren Genevieve, Vivian, Fiona, and Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 22 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Pastor Randy Snyder will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
