Mary "Evelyn" Hampton's Obituary
HAMPTON, Mary “Evelyn,” age 91, of Lebanon and formerly of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Hospice of Cincinnati-Blue Ash.
Evelyn was born May 12, 1933, to Richard and Lillie Waddle in Somerset, Kentucky. At 80 years old, she proudly earned her GED. With deep faith and a lifetime commitment to God, Evelyn was a longstanding member of the Lighthouse Harbor Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lebanon. She loved attending church, was well known for her prayers, and would gladly pray for anyone in need. She spent most of her life spreading the Gospel and telling others about her personal relationship with God.
Following her husband’s, Gene’s, formal retirement, they opened E&V Furniture in Genntown. They owned and operated the business for many years. Her love of antique furniture was lifelong. She regularly bought or took pictures of items she cherished. In addition, she also enjoyed collecting antique dolls. Another hobby that they enjoyed together was traveling. They visited almost all of the 50 states over the years. They regularly would spend several weeks in Florida, Mexico, or Colorado.
Her quiet personality was just the right fit for her true passion for sewing. She loved creating beautiful works of art, from dresses to quilts, for many in the community. She was very proud and loved being at her sewing machine and creating the next item for those who truly needed it. Among many things, she will be remembered for how meaningful her friendships were, how much she loved her family, and how very important her faith was.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul “Gene” Hampton, in 2021; son, Gary Gene Hampton; her parents, Richard and Lillie Waddle; and three sisters, Violet Dodson, Geneva Withers, and Chestyne Pelfrey. She is survived by her daughter, Karon Lynn (Luther) Neal; two grandchildren, Jeremy Neal and Jason (Christine) Neal; six great-grandchildren, Bradley Neal, Brianna (Jake) Cox, Joshua (McKayla) Neal; Jordan Neal, Katie Neal, and Ethan Neal; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jonah and Nathaniel.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM on Monday, January 20, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Don Ingram will officiate. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM on Monday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to Lighthouse Harbor Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lebanon.
