Mary Jo Murphy's Obituary
MURPHY, Mary Jo, age 88, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at her residence.
Mary Jo was born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia. She graduated from Morgantown High School, class of ’52. She was a long-standing member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the choir. She was a past president of the Progressive Women’s Club, NCO Club, and the United Methodist Women’s Club. In addition, she was a member of the New Carlisle Eastern Star. She was a realtor for over 17 years for Henkle Schueler Real Estate Group.
While the kids were growing up, she was a den mother for Cub Scouts and assisted with the Boy Scouts. As a member of the Waynesville Garden Club, she had a lavish garden and flower beds brimming due to her green thumbs. She never had any allergies, so she enjoyed trying different cuisines, but her favorite was items from her garden. While living in Japan, she taught dictation and, in return, received classes in flower arranging. Upon returning home, she participated in the Warren County Fair for flower arranging for numerous years, where she regularly received first or second place. With her artistic talent, she also created many paintings. She enjoyed using oils and watercolors to make the paper come to life. As a strong, passionate, good Christian woman, she would go out of her way to help others. She always looked forward to the family gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She always wanted the best for the family and regularly gave them lectures that taught them many life lessons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1997; her parents, Gerald and Genevieve Robertson. She is survived by one son Jack Murphy Jr.; one daughter, Debra Murphy; five grandchildren, Michael Murphy, Jack Thomas Murphy, Sean Patrick Murphy, Randolph (Angie) Carpenter, and Lyndsay Melvin; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Cevyn, and Randy III; one brother, Dave Robertson; and one sister, Ann Martin.
