Michael "Mickey" W. Turner's Obituary
Turner, Michael “Mickey” Wayne, age 61, of Waynesville, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
Mickey graduated from Mason High School, class of ’78, and earned an Associate's Degree from RETS Tech in Centerville. He proudly worked at Cleveland-Cliff's AK Steel in Middletown since 1989, serving the IAM Local 1943. Among his many experiences, he was at the Blast Furnace, and his most recent position was Safety Coordinator. As a hardworking gentleman with a strong work ethic, he was very passionate about his work and loved his job.
He lived a wonderful life filled with family, love, fun, and adventure. Mickey loved being outside every moment he could. He spent a lot of time camping, fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, spending time in his barn, and playing with his beloved dog, Jake. He would often tinker and build things from scratch, saying, “measure twice and cut once.” Being meticulous about details, he would take the time to think about projects thoroughly before starting them, and everything he did always had a purpose. He made a feeder for the birds in his backyard, and he appreciated being able to watch the birds gather pieces of corn, soot, and black sunflower seeds. His home was his paradise, and he was very proud of the pear tree on the property. He was a proud American and was a huge supporter of American-made products. He was very active and enjoyed golfing, roller skating, and swimming. Throughout the year, you could find him enjoying a golf-cart ride with his grandson, Carter, and their family dog, Jake. Mickey was an outstanding good man who was extremely kind-hearted, strong-willed, and sometimes even stubborn. He was never afraid to speak his mind. When his daughters needed advice, he always had the right words to say. In his free time, he enjoyed kicking back and watching a western or rooting on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Among many things, he will be remembered for the time he spent every Sunday preparing the perfect breakfast for the family, consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and sliced potatoes.
Mickey married his best friend Melissa on March 10, 1984, and he has been happily married, raising three daughters. He loved being around his family and never wanted to go anywhere unless Missy wanted to go as well. He looked forward to the routine weekly trips to the grocery store. Family was everything to him, and he put them above everything else. He especially enjoyed taking trips to Florida and Gatlinburg, TN. Mickey’s legacy will continue through lessons he taught his daughters and grandchild; strength, honesty, and love. Mickey will always be remembered as a family man: a loving husband, a dedicated Dad and Papaw, and a very loyal best friend.
He is preceded in death by his mother Carol Turner and father-in-law Lee Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melissa “Missy” Turner; three daughters Rita (Sam) Hoffer, Casey (Bill) Allen, and Leslie Turner (Travis Burlile); one grandson Carter Allen; two step-grandchildren Kolton and Kilie Hoffer; his favorite dog Jake; mother-in-law Roberta Wood; his father; one brother; three sisters; and numerous other loved ones.
Funeral service will be at 11 am Friday, December 24, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 6 -8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward the funeral expenses. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
