Nancy Ellen Simpson's Obituary
SIMPSON, Nancy Ellen, family-oriented and a dedicated Christian, age 90, of Lebanon and formerly of Pineville, Kentucky and Waynesville, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties.
Devoted to God all her life, Nancy was a longtime member of the Rocky Fork Primitive Baptist Church. She will always be remembered for how much she enjoyed reading her Bible and attending church.
Loving and friendly, Nancy had an excellent sense of humor and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, watching old-time television shows, listening to Gaither Gospel music, and Elvis. With her skill in sewing, she assisted Fred’s Department Stores with alterations for many years. She collected Raggedy Ann and Avon dolls for many years, which she always loved. In addition, she always cared deeply for animals and their well-being. While she was sprite with energy, she was more shy in her younger days but became more outgoing in her later years. She loved talking to people and could come across like she knew a stranger for years during a short conversation. She often took on home projects, even when it included getting on the roof or using a chainsaw, which often drew concerned phone calls to family members from her caring neighbors. An excellent cook, Nancy had a unique ability to measure the amount of necessary ingredients in a recipe (which were in her head) by placing them in the palm of her hand based on the number of people she was cooking for. Her biscuits and gravy, apple stack cakes, and peanut butter cookies were some of her best. In addition, it was a tradition for her to bake a custard or cream pie for the birthdays of her family members. She had several other traditions that she enjoyed, including Sunday dinner with her family at her daughter’s home each week, traveling back to her birthplace in Kentucky in the summer to visit her family and attend church, and hosting Christmas at her home each year. She always ensured her family had the perfect Christmas holiday, with all the decorations and the best baked goods. Her personality made everyone feel special, even if it meant baking a particular batch of peanut butter cookies that were burnt just the way her son-in-law preferred them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, in 1998; two grandsons, Jason Fugate and Russell Linder; her parents, Joseph Boatright and Nancy Simpson; and four brothers, James, Millard, Robert, and Joe Curtis Boatright. She is survived by two sons, Bennett (Linda) Simpson and J.C. Simpson; two daughters, Mary Sue Fugate and Cathy (Dan) Linder; 9 grandchildren, Jonathon (Jade) Simpson, Danny (Susan) Simpson, Brian Simpson, Angie (Mark) Smith, Amy (Mike) Sams, Joshua Simpson, Kelly Atkins, Jessica Linder (fiancé Kevin Arcese), and Dustin (Lari) Linder; 12 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Jeremy, Brittany, Kylie, Tim, Briann, Felicia, Donovan, Owen, Jack, Dylan, Oliver; one great-grandchild on the way; and two great great grandchildren, Makenna and Ryleigh.
The family will receive friends 11 AM-Noon Friday, September 9, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at Noon on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
