Opal Hymer's Obituary
HYMER, Opal, a true Christian lady with class and elegance, age 91, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at her residence. She was born December 20, 1929 to Dewey and Flossie Hisle in Jackson County, Kentucky.
Opal dedicated her life to God as a child. Her priority in life was serving God and going to church. In her later years, she was a dedicated member of the Lighthouse Harbor Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lebanon.
Opal was a proud homemaker and did so with class and style. She was an immaculate housekeeper and took great pride in keeping her home decorated nicely. She loved shopping with her daughter, especially for nice clothes and shoes that she adorned on all occasions. Opal was an awesome cook and made sure each meal included what each child liked to eat. If her children decided they didn’t like something, she didn’t want them to feel like they had to eat it. A few of her specialties, that her family will always remember fondly, were fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, potato salad, fried apple pie, pecan pie, and German chocolate cake. She would even let her family have food fights in the house, and she never complained about having to clean up the mess, even joining in on the fun most of the time. She loved working outside in her flower gardens, which were immaculate. She was known for her geraniums, and for many years she planted 100 of them. Among many things, she will be remembered as the most generous and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a loving spirit and made each family member feel unique and special.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburne, in 2018; a son Gary Hymer; daughter Joyce Ann Hymer; two grandchildren Melissa Hymer and Jason Hymer; her parents; and one brother Boyd Hisle. She is survived by one son Danny (Karen) Hymer; daughter Sue (Herb) Hammiel; daughter-in-law Kathy Hymer; four grandchildren Mishana (David) Murphy, Aaron Hymer, Crystal (Nathan) Wessel, and Nathan (Traci) Hammiel; eight great grandchildren Jaysa, Savannah, Nevaeh, Alliah, Kaylee, Devin, Xander, and Shawn; great great grandson Brody; her brother Ivan (Lucy) Hisle.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, August 7 at the Lighthouse Harbor Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lebanon. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Rev. Larry Isaacs will be officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM Saturday at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
