Paul J. Feltz's Obituary
FELTZ, Paul J., age 88, of Waynesville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born July 25, 1936 to Raymond and Olive Feltz in Cassella, Ohio. He attended Brunnerdale Seminary (Precious Blood) in Canton, Ohio, for his freshman and sophomore years of high school. He returned to his hometown of Cassella to finish high school due to health conditions forcing him to terminate his call in seminary school. Following high school, he attended electronic and computer schools, earning an Associate’s Degree from Sinclair Community College. He worked as a computer programer in the aerospace and defense industry, retiring from Northrop Grumman in 2005 after nearly 20 years of service. A devout Catholic, he was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Waynesville.
Paul was caring, friendly, loyal, and helpful to those in need. He often visited friends and church associates who were in the hospital, and was known to sit with people for hours. He greatly enjoyed vegetable gardening, bowling with work friends, and puzzles. He especially enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles during visits with his father, which became a tradition. He was also good at working Crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Being mechanically inclined, he worked with his father in building a new family home, and he also build the decks on both of the homes he lived in with his spouse.
Paul had a tradition of going on riverboat cruises on the Ohio River. He proposed to his wife on one of those special cruises, which became a fond memory. They also enjoyed traveling to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on a regular basis, usually staying in hotels. They often took the time to experience the Dixie Stampede show, ride the trolley around town, and partake in one of Paul’s favorite activities, eating in the area restaurants. They even took a helicopter ride on one of those trips to the Smoky Mountains. Among many things, he will be remembered for his Catholic faith. Even when going on trips, the first thing he did upon checking in to the hotel was looking up a local Catholic church were he could attend. He never missed attending church, even on vacations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ray Feltz Jr.; and his four sisters, Mary Ann Gray, Eileen Slivinski, twin sister Pauline Schemmel, and Kathy Schmitmeyer. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary; step daughter, Sherrill (Jim) Gallagher; step sons, Donald Kuebler and Russel Hiteman; five step grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers John (Cindy) Feltz, Jerry Feltz, and Ronald (Mary) Feltz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 PM Friday, September 27 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Waynesville. Father Bernie Weldishofer will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Friday at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. If desired, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
