Paul C. Mantey's Obituary
MANTEY, Paul Clarence, age 94, formerly of Cincinnati and Crystal River, Florida, went to be with his Lord on January 28, 2025, at the Courtyard of Centerville.
Paul was born at his home in Malone, Texas, to Edward G. Mantey and Margaret H. (Grace) Mantey on June 20, 1930. His family spent a few years in Houston before moving to Janesville, Wisconsin. Paul graduated from Janesville H.S. in 1948 with honors. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating with a degree in business. Paul took a job in the purchasing department of the Procter & Gamble Company, with whom he spent his entire career of 40 years.
P&G brought Paul to Cincinnati, where he met his future wife, Jane Martin, at a dance in 1955. They married in March of 1956 and spent the next 30 years raising their family in the Cincinnati area. In 1986, they moved to Florida in anticipation of Paul’s upcoming retirement. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary just three weeks before Jane’s death.
Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer Mantey; sister-in-law, Donna Mantey; and brother-in-law Ronald Combs. He is survived by his four children, Kathleen (Ned) Denlinger, Edward (Jeanne), Daniel (Karenina), and Keith Mantey; ten grandchildren: Kristen (Andrew), Matthew (Melina), Nathan (Raeann), Melissa, Katherine, Michael, Kia, Kendra, Asya, and Zion; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marjorie Combs; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul loved the Lord and served as an elder at Zion Lutheran in Cincinnati. In addition, he was a founding member and served as an elder at Faith Lutheran Church in Lecanto, Florida.
Paul loved the outdoors and travel. He planned numerous family camping trips with the goal of visiting as many of the national parks as possible. He visited all but one of the fifty states and many European, Asian, and Oceania countries. Paul enjoyed fishing and golf. His move to Florida after retirement enabled him to do both frequently, and he continued playing golf until age 89. Paul was also known for his quick wit and tendency to break into song with a loud, strong voice.
The celebration of Paul’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, 185 N. Main St., Waynesville, OH 45068. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home on Saturday. The service will be live-streamed at www.stubbsconner.com at noon on Saturday.
