Randolph "Randy" Scott Karns' Obituary
KARNS, Randolph “Randy” Scott, age 61, of Waynesville, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024.
Randy owned a T.V. repair and warranty shop for over 40 years. He was the ultimate handyman who could fix just about anything. Being a social butterfly, he was happy-go-lucky personality, he had many friends. His logo for his company was a smiley face. He was a family man through and through and cared immensely for them. From the beginning, his relationship with his wife, Doreen, was remarkable. They had a deep bond and were best friends. He proudly told others that his best day was when he married his best friend, and the second best day was when his kids were born. Randy adored his children and was known to spoil them a bit. That special bond created a tradition of texting “Happy Birthday” with his daughter at 12 am on birthdays. Another tradition he was well known for was when he was traveling or not at home, he would send his family members a text to tell them he loved them. He often didn’t go to bed until super late, and his kids enjoyed having those quiet conversations one-on-one with him late in the evening. He had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs, Luna, Aki, and Nyla, and his cat, Fuzzy.
He was passionate about boating at Norris Lake yearly and loved being in the water. His son remembers all the memories created while tubing and water skiing. He looked forward to always taking his family on camping trips. No one specific place, really anywhere the open road took them. Some of their more frequent adventures included Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He had a private pilot license and appreciated going to Red Stewart Airport and flying around the area for an hour or two. He had incredible skill at playing ping pong and a passion for collecting Tony Stewart memorabilia. His 1965 Ford Mustang was his pride and joy. Randy was very comical and always tried to make people laugh. He had a great sense of humor and loved his flopping bass fish that would sing. He would watch Sully movies on repeat over and over. In addition, he always said in his booming voice, “I’ll get around to it,” and “The moral of the story is…” and then proceeded to tell you the whole story. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love and pride for his wife, children, and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Doreen; one son, Garret Karns; one daughter, Sarah Karns; his mother, Patricia Osterday, one brother, Edward Karns; and two sisters, Kelly (Larry) Cotterman and Becky (Doug) Super.
A graveside service will be 1 pm Friday, September 13 at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward the funeral expenses. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
