Raymond Couch's Obituary
COUCH, Raymond, age 94, of Franklin and formerly of Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024.
Raymond retired from GM in 1985 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of God in Middletown.
Always caring and often ornery, Raymond loved to talk and create conversation with friends, family, and strangers alike. He played the banjo, guitar, and harmonica in a country band named the Country Gospelaires. Together with his bandmates, they had several albums. Mechanically inclined, he also enjoyed working on old cars. Going out and buying someone’s scrap automobile and subsequently restoring it was something he loved and was good at. Raymond loved to mow his grass and would often mow it, whether needed or not, to get that cut grass look in his lawn. He also enjoyed leisure rides on his tractor around his property. He always prioritized watching the evening news from his La-Z-Boy recliner at 6:30 PM each evening. When he was younger, he enjoyed whittling wood from time to time.
He enjoyed the tradition of visiting Brooksville, Florida, with his wife and family regularly. They enjoyed the trips so much that they purchased a home there, too. Visiting flea markets was another fond tradition, mainly a hobby enjoyed by his wife, but Raymond always enjoyed tagging along to create conversation with people. On the other hand, he never passed up an opportunity to visit a garage sale to see if some car parts were being sold at a discount. Among many things, he will be remembered for his marriage to Susie for an incredible 76 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Couch; his parents, Zeke Couch and Mary Jane Fields (stepfather Jess Fields); two brothers, Mitchel and Bert Couch; and one sister, Paula Jane Fields. He is survived by his loving wife, Susie; son, Bobby Couch; daughter, Judy Carter; granddaughter, Kelly (Brad) Ihle; great-grandson, Braydon Ihle (fianceé Kaitlyn); two sisters, Anna Fugate and Martha Greer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
