Richard Lee Ball's Obituary
BALL, Richard Lee, age 76, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Richard graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’66. Early in his career, he worked as an outside salesman at Waynesville Lumber. Following Waynesville Lumber, he worked at NCR in Dayton and several other lumber companies. After nearly 40 years, he retired in 2013 from Carter Lumber in Dayton. His passion was building houses that he could either live in or be a contractor and sell to others. He built the first house on Ellis Drive and sold it to his in-laws, who lived there for many years. He also continued to build two more homes in that subdivision and numerous others in the Waynesville and Lebanon areas. For nearly 15 years, he was a volunteer and a Lieutenant for the Wayne Twp. Fire and Rescue Squad. He was an associate member of the Waynesville American Legion Post 615.
He enjoyed playing golf and fishing at Caesar Creek Lake for fun. He always had an appreciation for nice cars, primarily classic cars. He enjoyed hanging out with his legion friends and talking about cars. He was always an excellent cook and liked making meals for his family. As a fun-loving, helpful, caring, quiet gentleman, he absolutely loved his family. He was very family oriented and loved spending time with them. He always made time for anyone that needed his help. Traveling to Venice, Florida, to his in-law’s villa became a family tradition. While there, he looked forward to soaking up the sun’s rays, eating out, shark teeth searching, and, most importantly, having fun around the pool with his loved ones. He also enjoyed family reunions. When he was a child, they often occurred in Kentucky, later at Caeser Creek Lake, and recently at Nick and Tonia Beachler’s. He also enjoyed listening to music and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Stella Ball; two brothers, Millard Filmore Ball and Tommy Ball; and three sisters, Irene Craycraft, Katherine Gulley, and Mary Jo Ball. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia “Pat”; five children, Kristina Ball (Scott Hall), Bryan (Jackie) Agee, Lisa Proper (Randy), Rodney Ball, and Robyn Ball; seven grandchildren, Brenna (Brewster) Turner, William (Katie) Agee, Henry Agee, Ayden Ball, Micah Ball, Gracie Hall, and Delaney Hall; two great-grandchildren, Levi Sanson and one-on-the-way; sister Becky Sawyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm Friday, May 26, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. The funeral service will be 2:30 pm Friday, May 26, at the funeral home. Eddie Gardner will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. If desired, contributions may be made toward the Wayne Twp. Fire and Rescue Department or the Waynesville American Legion Post 615. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
