Richard Irons' Obituary
IRONS, Richard, 78, of Waynesville, died on January 31 at Hospice of Dayton. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara, sons, Terry of Morehead, KY, and Charles of Dayton, and his wife Melissa. Other surviving relatives include brothers, Fred and Tom, sisters, Francis and Alice, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Charles and Elinor Mullenix who cared for him as a child, infant granddaughter, Rebecca, and sister, Nancy. He attended Wayne Local Schools, graduated from Patterson Co-op, and attended the University of Dayton. Until his retirement, he worked as a tool and die maker in Dayton and operated his own tool and die business. A Korean War era army veteran, Richard was a member of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons, Waynesville Lodge 163, the Miami Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Antioch Shrine of Dayton, and the Waynesville American Legion. A dedicated public servant, he served on the Waynesville Water Board and City Council and tutored in Wayne Local Schools. He loved music and was an avid fan of NASCAR. Public Masonic and Eastern Star services will be conducted at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville at 2 PM on Sunday, February 4, with private visitation for family and close relatives starting at 1 PM. Christian Burial Services will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Waynesville at 1 PM on Monday, February 5, with interment at Miami Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
