Robert Crawford Chamblee's Obituary
CHAMBLEE, Robert Crawford, age 77, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Robert grew up in the hills of West Virginia. He honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was primarily stationed in California as a crew chief. He was one of the original aircraft maintenance technicians for the original C-141 plane now featured at the National Museum of the US Air Force. He was very devoted to his place of employment and rarely missed a day. SuperValu found him a very dependable employee, and he was respected by many of his colleagues. He retired in 2009 after 30 years of service as a warehouse supervisor for the SuperValu Distribution Center in Xenia.
He was quiet and conservative, but if you wanted to talk to him about art, movies, or music, he could go on for hours. He knew every word of ’60s-era music and every line and who was in most movies. He had an extensive collection of records, anywhere from the Rolling Stones to the Beetles. Robert would even make his tapes based on his vinyl records. He was a huge Bob Dylan fan. He was always listening to him in the car. He collected all his albums and had many books about him. His passion was his love of art and painting. It all started when he got to experience the views of skyscrapers and the city of Detroit, which he became an expert on. His love of art allowed him to create beautiful pieces in all different types of mediums, especially oils and charcoal.
He enjoyed watching WWE and college basketball and football. He was fond of outdoor activities. He would ride his bike along the bike trail in Waynesville. He would also take in the fresh air and scenery on hikes. He often hiked at Caesar Creek Lake, Sugarcreek Reserve, and almost every state park. His family meant the world to him. He was always looking forward to when the family would all get together. He was very proud of his loving wife, two daughters, and his seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Loraine Chamblee; three brothers, Stephen, Woody, and Joe Chamblee; and three sisters, Laura Chamblee, Beth Chamblee, and Frankie Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rita Chamblee; two daughters, Kelly Chamblee and Ashley (BJ) Paulino; seven grandchildren, Veronica Garcia, Lily Gonzalez, Hunter Gonzalez, Levi Gonzalez, Julio Gonzalez, Topulei Elichimwai, and Azure Elichimwai; and one brother, Richard Chamblee.
