When I was very young back in the 70s, I can remember thinking (probably because of the hair styles of the day) that Uncle Bob and Glenn Campbell were one in the same... When I was a teen Uncle Bob had been asked to remove a bee colony from an old tree, and invited us to come along, I think I called it a “Bee Hunt!” He then taught dad and I how to keep bees and process honey! That was fun!! I remember his tireless preparation for a couple trips to the Yucatan with piles of boxes and medical supplies all over Grandma and Grandpa’s living and family room. In my 20s I had a short lived job delivering medical supplies and a package for him came on the prep table. I volunteered to take the South route that day and stopped in to visit -- if he was busy he didn’t act like it and we talked for a while. More recently, last September, I was in town because of Hurricane Sally, and I got to talk to him for a couple of hours. He was positive, upbeat, and stated that he had had “a blessed life!” He also told a few jokes…
I now tell jokes, I guess its genetics! My favorite of his goes something like this...
A man wanted to do some traveling and stay in hotels with his very large dog. His friend asked: “What about the size?” The man replied: “Oh, I can train the dog not to sigh…”
In closing: I want to thank Dennis and Tracy Trovillo for taking such great care of Bob. You have been Angels and family to him!! I’m sorry for your loss…
