Robert E. Wilcher's Obituary
WILCHER, Robert E., age 81, Lebanon and formerly of Miamisburg, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Laurels of West Carrollton.
Robert graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’64. Early in his career, Robert worked at Dayton Tire and Rubber, followed by Rogers Cartage Co. in Cincinnati. In the middle of his career, he worked several years at Overnight Trucking. Ultimately, as a member of Teamster Local 100 in Cincinnati, he retired from Yellow Roadway Company (YRC) in 2010 after a career spanning 30+ years driving a truck over the roads.
Robert lived life his way. He shared a passion for riding Harley Davidson motorcycles with his son, Robert Jr.. They made the trip to Sturgis together in 2004, along with trips to Gettysburg and Washington, D.C., with a focus on historical sites and monuments. In addition, they rode the 11 mile stretch of US 129 through the Great Smoky Mountains containing 318 curves. Robert also enjoyed music, mostly bluegrass music and traditional country music. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, mostly for fun or during times when family gathered together. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and grandkids. He will also be remembered for how much he enjoyed sitting on the porch with his cat, smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. Inside the house, Fox News was always playing on the TV, usually at a volume much too high.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in 2021; his parents, Eugene and Sarah Wilcher; one sister, Ruth Lee; and an infant brother, Terry. He is survived by three children, Robert Wilcher Jr., Michael (Sherry) Wilcher, and Kimberly (Joe) Vaughn; four grandchildren, Brittany (Joe) White, Jessica (Samuel) Deardoff, Brandon Wilcher, and Nathan Wilcher; three brothers, Roger (Vicki) Wilcher, Russell (Blanche) Wilcher, and Robin (Elaine) Wilcher; one sister, Rita Ling; longtime family friends, Roger and Janice Miller, and their boys; and all of Robert’s dear friends and caregivers at the Laurels of West Carrollton.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 25 at Middle Run Cemetery in Waynesville. Pastor Joe Shutts will be officiating the service. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to New Freedom Church in Lebanon. Condolences to the family may be made at www.stubbsconner.com.
