Robert "Bob" Campbell's Obituary
CAMPBELL, Robert "Bob" L., age 81, lifelong resident of Waynesville passed away Sun. June 5, 2011 at Hospice of Butler/Warren County. Bob graduated from Waynesville High School, class of '47, and was a Korean War Army veteran. When he was younger, he was a soda jerk at Doc Drake's Drug Store, a village employee, and owned a sporting goods store, all in Waynesville. He retired from Waynesville Schools after 28 years of service and again from Hometown Marketplace after 20 years. He was also proud to have worked a couple of years with his wife at Kings Island following their retirement. He was a Waynesville Fire Dept. & Life Squad member from 1954-1994, serving as Lieutenant, Captain, Asst. Fire Chief, and Fire Chief; volunteer baseball coach for the Waynesville American Legion high school team; Kettering League baseball umpire for 21 years; President of the Kettering Umpires Assoc. for seven years; Wayne Twp Trustee for five terms, President for four years; charter member of the Waynesville Lions Club and the Harveysburg VFW; member of the American Legion for 38 years, chaplain for two; co-chairman of the Waynesville Country Fair; member of the Waynesville Chamber of Commerce, served on the Sauerkraut Festival Committee and was co-chairman of the chamber Pepsi booths; member and former Trustee of the Waynesville United Methodist Church; played on the Waynesville All Star Softball Team; served as Santa Claus for the Fire Dept. Christmas Dinner; was active in the Waynesville Athletic Boosters; and was inducted into the Wayne Local Schools Hall of Fame in 1998. He also enjoyed traveling, mushroom hunting, playing cards, bowling, playing the lottery, and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Ollie "Marie" Campbell, two brothers Richard and Charles, and two sisters Helen Morgan and Ann Gleadall. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ellen; daughter Tuesday (Shane) Nisewonder; two stepsons Terry (Sherry) Gadd and Michael (Susan McBurney) Gadd; five grandchildren Erica (Phil) Blades, Danielle Gadd, Rylee Nisewonder, Owen Gadd, and Nora Gadd; two great grandchildren Alyssa and Aaron Blades; one sister Vi Eveland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 AM Thurs. June 9 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville. Pastor Tammy Jo Reiser and Jing Chow officiating. Burial Miami Cemetery, Corwin.
