Ruth Imogene "Jean" Buchanan's Obituary
BUCHANAN, Ruth Imogene “Jean”, age 92, of Waynesville, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020. She was born January 23, 1928, on Frozen Creek in Breathitt County, Kentucky.
Ruth was always a very quiet, thoughtful lady who was private and reserved, but always willing to help other people. Her talents were numerous and she shared those talents in all aspects of her life. At the age of 19, she was a teacher in a one room school house. Following the school house, she worked in a bicycle factory, attended nursing school, and then worked at Inland. Her most rewarding job was when she left Inland and decided to take care of her mother. After her mother’s passing, she worked for Dayton International Airport where she was the head cashier. Eventually she found herself at Bethany Lutheran Village, where she retired in 1989 after 20 years of being a nurse’s aide.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Waynesville, the Waynesville Garden Club, and was a proud Girl Scout Troop Leader. In companionship with her husband, she enjoyed going hunting, fishing, growing vegetables, and canning. In her spare time, you could catch her reading, sewing, and working in her flower gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Beverly Buchanan, in 2006; one step-son Clay Buchanan; parents John Gilbert and Angie Sewell; six brothers Benjamin Ralph Sewell, Albert Ray Sewell, William Sewell, Cecil “Pete” Sewell, Carl Sewell, and Ernest Sewell; and six sisters Ruby Belval, Nancy Spring, Daisy Baldwin, Carrie Taylor, Lucy Struve, and Vivian Rose Sewell. She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Robert) Ruse of Waynesville; one son Robert (Gretchen) Buchanan of Waynesville; one step-son Millard (Marietta) Buchanan of Wilmington; four grandchildren Philip (Michelle) Ruse of Atoka, TN, Craig (Julie Jones) Ruse oF Dayton, Nathan Buchanan of Waynesville, and Ian Buchanan of Waynesville; three great grandchildren Amelia Ruse, Gabriel Ruse, and Timothy Ruse; two sisters-in-law Mary Campbell of Waynesville and Ruth Whitney of Kettering; her best friend Richie Moore; and her enduring neighbor Homer Miller.
