Ruth D. England's Obituary
ENGLAND, Ruth D., age 96, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at Hospice of Dayton. Ruth was one of 11 children born to Charles and Magnettia “Nettie” Burriss.
Ruth worked 10 years at Dayton Tire and Rubber in her younger days, which is where she met her husband of 64 years, Ernie. For many years, she attended Springboro Christian Church.
Funny, caring, compassionate, happy, and always smiling, Ruth had a sensitive demeanor in a good way and loved to tell great stories. “Mo”, as she was referred to by the grandchildren, greatly enjoyed sewing and quilting, crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and especially feeding and caring for the backyard birds. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, which always included a large asparagus patch. Her petunias were raised in a kettle in red, white, and blue colored flowers to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. She always sought to learn something new, whereby leafing through her encyclopedias and reading a nonfiction book. The bird books she read and kept in her home will always be remembered as a wonderful memory of Ruth by her family. In addition, she liked cooking for her husband and enjoyed cooking with the grandchildren, since they spent almost every evening together. The family will always remember her making homemade fudge, baking peach and apple pies during the summer, and exceptional buckeyes near Christmas. The peaches she used for her pies were grown in the backyard, and it became a tradition for her to freeze them for enjoyment in the offseason. Among many things, she will also be remembered for hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, especially the memories of attending Christmas Eve service and going back to her home to open presents and for dinner, and of course her famous buckeyes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie, in 2013; her daughter Joyce Mercatante; her parents; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son David (Becky) England; three grandchildren Chelsea (Josh) Bolinger, Emily (Seth) Schrader, and Sara Jordan; four great-grandchildren Ethan, Willow, River, and Sparrow; and one great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Monday, November 22 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Mock officiating. Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. If desired, contributions may be made to Feed the Children at feedthechildren.org or the Wounded Warrior Project via woundedwarriorproject.org. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
