Samuel J. Brown's Obituary
BROWN, Samuel J., age 91, of Waynesville, passed away Christmas day, December 25, 2021, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Sam graduated from Waynesville High School, class of 1948. He worked as a plumber and steamfitter at Wright Patterson Air Force base until he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. After honorably serving his country for two years, he returned to WPAFB in 1953 and was promoted to Foreman in 1962. Sam received numerous superior performance awards during his career, including the Civil Engineer Foreman of the Year award in 1971 and the Outstanding Achievement Award in 1978. He was promoted to Maintenance General Foreman in 1979 and officially retired on February 28, 1986, after nearly 35 years of service.
Anyone that knew Sam could tell you he was a “family man.” He loved to visit with family members and spend time with his daughter and grandsons. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their activities - never missing a game or performance. Sam loved to vacation with family and took them on annual Florida and South Carolina trips. One of his favorite vacations was going trout fishing out west with his dad and brother. Next to family, Sam loved cars. Over the years, he owned many high-quality ones and found pure joy in driving them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 2001; his parents, Findley and Laura Brown; two brothers, Howard and Kenneth Brown; and three sisters, Alberta Hoak, Mary Hardin, and Mabel Walker. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Glen) Thomas; two grandsons, Jamie (Cynthia) Thomas and Joseph (Chelsey) Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Owen, and Evelyn; and four sisters, Virginia Hill, Joan (Dale) Dakin, Janice (Elmer) Powell, and Charlotte (Bob) Lucas.
A private graveside service will be held Friday, December 31, at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
