Sarah E. Chasteen's Obituary
CHASTEEN, Sarah E., age 96, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021. Sarah was born July 12, 1925, to Raymond and Ellen Conner in Waynesville.
Sarah graduated from Waynesville High School and was a First United Methodist Church member in Franklin. She retired as an Invoice Records Manager from Montgomery Ward department store in Middletown after more than 20 years of dedicated work to the company. Over the years, she volunteered her time at church by assisting in the women’s circle and bazaars, among other tasks.
Loving, caring, friendly, giving, and supportive, Sarah definitely fits the description when thinking of an example of a lovely lady. She greatly enjoyed camping. Along with her husband and kids, they started by pitching a tent and later moved on to a motorhome as the years progressed. During her retirement years, Sarah and Everett traveled in the motorhome to Mission, Texas, for the winter months. While the kids were young, they spent one notable trip camping throughout the western United States, visiting many of the national parks, while traveling to their ultimate destination of California. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and needlework. Over the years, it became a tradition for the family to rent out a place and spend time together in Gatlinburg. Among many things, she will be remembered for how special she made the holidays, which she always hosted at her home. In addition, her homemade caramels will always be remembered fondly by family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 2018; one son Earl Chasteen; one grandson Todd Chasteen; her parents; one brother Leo Conner; and one sister Ruth Conner. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Robert) Miller; two sons James (Thoy) Chasteen and Gary (Laura) Chasteen; daughter-in-law Brenda Chasteen; 15 grandchildren; and more than 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 12 PM Saturday, December 18, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 10 AM - 12 PM Saturday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the First United Church in Franklin, 303 S. Main St., Franklin, Ohio 45005.
