Sarah Frances Conner's Obituary
CONNER, Sarah Frances (Watkins), age 91, of Waynesville died Sat. Oct. 17, 2009 at Quaker Heights Nursing Home, Waynesville. Frances was born April 2, 1918, to Henry and Gertrude (Lucas) Watkins of Waynesville. She graduated from Wayne Local High School in 1937. She married Leo Sherwood Conner on June 8, 1938, and they celebrated 66 years together. She was a life member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church and was a Youth Fellowship Leader. She retired from Wayne Local School in 1981 having served as the cafeteria cashier. She was also a dispatcher for the Wayne Township Fire Department, an employee of both Irma’s Dress Shop and Fashion Post, and she and her husband, Leo, were honored as Co-Citizen of the Year on June 12, 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her brothers, Nelson and Donald Watkins; her sisters, Lillian Fox, Nellie Miltenberger, Anna Mae Malcolm, and Esther Kidd; and sister-in-law, Ruth Conner. Frances is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Joe Smallwood of Miamisburg and Tucson, Janet and Bill Carter of Waynesville, and Nancy Lynch of Centerville; seven grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Carla Smallwood of Waynesville, Blake and Lisa Smallwood of Springboro; Donna Snyder of Centerville, Tom and Cindy Carter of Waynesville, Matt Carter of Miamisburg, Pamela and Jason Randall of Beavercreek, and Sherry and Scott Armstrong of Kettering; fifteen great-grandchildren Ryan, Conner, and Tyler Smallwood, Andy, Joey, and Josh Carter, Joshua and Evan Clymer, Keegan, Kierstin, and Kayden Randall, and Sage, Krista, Kaylie, and Scott Armstrong; her brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Georgia Watkins of Waynesville; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Sarah Chasteen of Franklin. Funeral services 11 AM Wed. Oct. 21 at STUBBS-CONNER FUNERAL HOME, Waynesville. Pastor Tammy Jo Reiser officiating. Burial Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tues. at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the Wayne Local Fire Dept., Waynesville United Methodist Church, or Hospice of Dayton.
