Sharon E. Mattia's Obituary
MATTIA, Sharon E., age 78, of Centerville, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital.
Sharon graduated in the early 60s from Chaminade-Julienne High School in Dayton. For nearly 20 years, she worked as an office manager for Osterfeld-Champion Service in Dayton. She retired in 2016 after co-owning and managing Cradles to Crayons the previous 17 years. For many years, she was an active member of the Church of the Incarnation in Centerville. More recently, she was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church in West Carrollton.
Sharon had a vibrant personality and smile. In addition, she was caring, loving, outgoing, friendly, and always up for a fun time,. She was also family oriented and happiest when spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved shopping, yet was always cautious of a dollar. She preferred to shop in mom and pop shops, small boutiques, and dollar stores over the big box stores. She also enjoyed traveling on vacation, with trips to Italy and Arizona being some of her favorite locales. For 35 years, she had a tradition of traveling to Aruba to stay in their timeshare. Along with family and friends, the trips to Aruba included shopping excursions, walks on the beach, visits to the pool, and daily visits to their favorite restaurants. She also loved the action of trying her luck in the casinos, which Aruba and the trips to Arizona accommodated. It was the many family get-togethers, however, that Sharon loved the most. Along with her husband, they hosted Christmas Eve each year for both sides of their family. Since her husband took care of most of the dinner preparation, her job was mainly decorator, entertainer, greeter, and last minute gift wrapper for the evening festivities. She also enjoyed the tradition of getting together with the ladies of her family for a yearly bus trip to the Snooty Fox in Cincinnati, along with several others high end consignment stores, complete with champagne, box lunch, and tons of fun and laughter. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she loved having fun and hanging out with the younger crowd. Regardless of whether she was playing games on her iPad, attending concerts with daughter and friends, or shopping in one of her favorite stores, Sharon was always the life of the party.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Faye Young. She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Frank; two daughters, Christina (Mark) Houck and Michelle (Jim) Stoffregen; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Amber, Zachary, and Justin Houck, Natalie (Matt) Kauffman, Rachel (Jared) Key, and Trevor Stoffregen; six great grandchildren, Zoe, Ella, Joy, Lainey, Everley, and Westley; her sister, Catherine (Keith) Zunk; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held 6 PM Friday, December 2 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Father Bernie Weldishofer and Pastor Dana Pendergrass will be officiating. The family will receive friends 3 - 6 PM Friday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
