Sharon K. Walker's Obituary
WALKER, Sharon K., age 66, of Wilmington and formerly of Waynesville, passed away Thurs. April 4, 2019.
Sharon has been employed for the past seven years at Speedway in Wilmington at their south end location. Prior to Speedway, she worked 20 years at Frisch’s in Wilmington.
Fun-loving, friendly, caring, giving, and always smiling, Sharon knew how to have fun and cut loose at times. In her kind-hearted spirit, she was known to offer financial assistance to customers that came in to Speedway that were in need. She greatly enjoyed gardening, caring for her hummingbirds, being outdoors, playing games on her computer, and spending time with her grandsons and great grandson. She especially enjoyed getting her nails manicured by her daughter. She loved to celebrate the holidays and was known to decorate to the hilt. She enjoyed amusing her customers at work and would dress up to reflect the holidays, ensuring her nails were properly coordinated. Recently, she was a big hit in her St. Patrick’s Day ensemble. She collected angel figurines and never turned down the opportunity to enjoy her favorite meal, a fresh bologna sandwich and ice tea.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Elizabeth Ridinger, and brother-in-law, Don Rye.. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Fred Ford; two grandsons, Richard Smith and Tyler Ford; great grandson, Rhyan Smith; three brothers, Wayne Ridinger (Sandy Hettinger), Darrell (Kelly) Ridinger, Randy (Holly) Ridinger; three sisters, Vicki Rye, Connie (Steve) Sweeney, and Sherry (Berry) Ratliff; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Tues. April 9 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Officiating the service will be life celebrant Katie Mackoway. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 2 PM Tues. at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
