Sheila K. Kilgore's Obituary
KILGORE, Sheila K., age 80, Beavercreek, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. She was born May 8, 1944, in New Albany, Indiana, to Edith Eudora Blackman (neé Shields) and Gordon Rudolph Blackman.
Sheila was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. Always active in church and church activities, she often performed readings, assisted in charitable church functions, and attended mass almost daily.
Giving, kind, and friendly, Sheila had a supportive and caring personality to those she loved. She also loved horses and enjoyed several years of raising, maintaining, and riding those in her care. One of her horses, aptly named Rhett, was her favorite. She also cared for smaller pets, notably a cat named Jasmine, and a couple of dogs at home currently who preferred Sheila, even though they were technically her husband’s dogs. Her hobbies included biking and hiking, and Sheila even completed a couple of half marathons and triathlons with her husband. However, spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was her favorite way to spend a day. She was affectionally known by the nicknames “Aunt She-She” and “Mama Mia” by some of her nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Sheila enjoyed the tradition of hosting her family for Thanksgiving each year for about 50 years. She took great pride in preparing the perfect holiday dinner and making the day special for her family. She collected horse-related items and rosaries. She often visited churches during her travels and would select a rosary to commemorate the experience. Among many things, Sheila will be remembered as a proud Right to Life activist and a caregiver. Throughout her life, she spent multiple years caring for sick family members, friends, and neighbors and was present in their last hours. At one point in her life, she aspired to be a nurse, and in a non-traditional way, she achieved that goal. Sheila took care of so many, both in body and spirit.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathleen Blackman-Chaney. She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Ronald; two daughters, Pamela (Steven) Denning and Heather Kilgore (husband Jim Nash); son, Ronald Kilgore Jr.; grandsons, Bret Kilgore, Brandon Kilgore, Shane Joseph, and Scott Denning; granddaughters, Shauna Joseph and Samantha Denning; great-grandchildren, Addison Kreitzer, Jade Kilgore, Liam Silvers, Sadie Joseph, and Weston Erwin; one brother, Gordon Blackman; sisters, Kim Blackman-Wilson and Jackie Blackman-Barmore; and many nieces, nephews, great-neices and nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday, October 18, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia, followed by burial in St. Brigid Cemetery. Father Mike Holloran will officiate the services. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Condolences are available at www.stubbsconner.com.
