Shirley E. Chenoweth's Obituary
CHENOWETH, Shirley E., age 93, of Trenton and formerly of Brookville, Ohio and Bradenton, Florida, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
Shirley graduated from Stivers High School, class of ’46. She worked 30 years as a Payroll Manager, first with Northwest School District and ultimately retiring from Mason Local Schools in the late 80s.
A minister’s wife, Shirley worked hand in hand with her husband with the United Methodist Church. She was a member at the New Lebanon United Methodist Church, Brookville United Methodist Church, Miamitown Methodist Church, and Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Florida. She gave unselfishly and extensively to the church and the congregation, participating in or leading multiple church-related organizations over the years. While serving in Bradenton, she started an outreach program for teenagers whereby the youth became involved in sports, music, social groups, and other fun after-school activities. A local newspaper recognized her efforts in an article, that focused on the immense impact she had on the community during her involvement.
Giving, loving, social, caring to others, and the matriarch of her family, Shirley was mothering to all children, loved to entertain, and lived her life for church, her family, and her friends. Eloquently described as a person who lived her life at the foot of the cross, church was everything to her. She was a proper lady with traditional values. She prepared and insisted that her family start their day with a hot breakfast and always made sure her husband’s clothes were ironed. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting and even made clothes for her kids and grandkids when they were growing up. She was an excellent cook, with her Spanish rice being the dish that the family will always remember as being one of her best. It became a tradition for Shirley and her family to travel to Epworth by the Sea, a Methodist Church-related conference, retreat, and vacation center at St. Simons Island in Georgia. In addition, the move to a condo in Bradenton, in which the family was always invited for extensive stays, also became some of her fondest memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” in 1996; her parents, Willard and Hildred Woods; and one brother, Billy Woods. She is survived by three children, Steve (Sarah) Chenoweth, Mark (Kay) Chenoweth, and Paula Chenoweth (Tracy Freeman); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Vern (Nancy) Woods; and three sisters, Patricia Ullery, Phyllis Myers, and Linda Brinson.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 29 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Middle Run Cemetery, Waynesville. Nancy Hodgkins will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and/or the United Methodist Church. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
