Shirley L. Sperling's Obituary
SPERLING, Shirley, age 77, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
As a pastor's wife, Shirley had a deep faith and was proud to support her husband and the church. Together, they served the Lord at the South Dayton Baptist Church and Cherry Hill Baptist Church in Beavercreek. While her husband pastored, she used her musical talents on the piano and vocals to set the tone of the church and to help the worship experience. In addition, she served as the church secretary for several years. Recently, she has been attending Urbancrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.
Prim and proper, Shirley was very meticulous about her appearance. She loved jewelry and insisted on being fully adorned on all occasions, even when family visited her at home. Independent, intelligent, compassionate, and organized, Shirley greatly enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafting, and flower arranging. It was a tradition to have Christmas at their home, where she filled the holiday with little surprises that made it special for everyone. Specifically, she collected Santa Claus items and liked decorating with them. She was also an excellent cook. Her creative and intuitive side allowed her to create a meal out of an empty kitchen and still have it taste perfect. She was well known for her Hungarian goulash and German chocolate cake. She was a collector of spoons from around the world. Among many things, she will be remembered for how proud she was of her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Leona Lewis. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronald; three sons, Barry (Melanie) Sperling, Jerry Sperling, and David (Judy) Sperling; one daughter, Melody (Alan) Coppock; eight grandchildren, Mindie (Ben) Bess, Joshua (Lynlee) Coppock, Jacob (Madyson) Coppock, Faith (Lucas) Henegar, Mickayla (Zach) McCoig, Lauren Sperling, Adam Sperling, and Audrey Sperling; six great-grandchildren, Ellie Bess, Banner Bess, Tatum Coppock, Van Coppock, Ridge Coppock, and Uriah Henegar; one brother, Bob (Margarethe) Lewis; and two sisters, Linda (Gail) Ferguson and Karen (Phil) Dishman.
