Shirley J. Wright's Obituary
WRIGHT, Shirley J., age 74, of Wilmington and formerly of Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at her residence with family by her side.
Shirley worked as a certified nursing assistant at Quaker Heights Nursing Home in Waynesville for more than 10 years. Many years ago while living in Florida, she worked at a shrimp factory, specifically Cox Seafood, which she always looked back on fondly.
Loving, caring, and occasionally strong-willed in a fun way, Shirley would do anything for family and friends. Her favorite hobbies included playing Farmville and scrolling through Facebook on her computer, shopping, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Although Walmart was definitely her favorite place to shop, she enjoyed many other favorites as well. She always insisted on taking her time while strolling through the store, almost making a day of the experience, and if the store had a restaurant inside, she always insisted on eating there before departing. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, mainly because she loved buying gifts for everyone. She was a huge Trump fan and enjoyed staying on top of current events by watching Fox News regularly. She was an excellent cook, with her most well-known delectables being fried cabbage with bacon and onions, homemade yeast rolls, soup beans, fried potato, and an assortment of other southern cooking style dishes. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she loved her chihuahua, “Rome”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennie, in 1987; a granddaughter Jessica Lunsford; her parents John and Marjorie Younker; and four brothers Carl, Bill, William, and Walter Younker. She is survived by six children Dennie (Kathy) Wright Jr., Faye (Cassie) Cantrell, Beulah (Eddie) Le, Sheri Isaacs, Matthew Wright, and Angie Bach; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers Cecil, George, and Jimmy Younker; and one sister Barbara Jean Biggs.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 16 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
