Sierra Ballard's Obituary
BALLARD, Jimi Sierra Shaey Kerr “Sierra Ballard”, age 39, of Mason, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the UC Health West Chester Hospital.
Sierra was born in Dayton on January 15, 1986. While she attended both Mason City Schools and Wayne Local Schools, Sierra played softball and basketball during her time in Waynesville. She graduated from Mason High School, class of ’04. For 13 years, she was a hospitality professional, working in various roles, from waitress to office manager. She was well-known for her time working at Skyline and as a waitress at Trio’s at Kenwood. Her favorite position was being the office manager. She was a Friend of Bill, who loved playing in the adult group for softball. Faith was always very important to her; at a young age, she was baptized in a creek. She was a member of the Temple of Praise in Miamisburg.
Outgoing and friendly, and giving, she was always trying to help others. At the age of 12, she became certified in first aid and CPR. She mostly did this in case she would ever need to help her stepbrother, Bradley, but she put her skills into action on two strangers in public, providing life-saving measures until medics arrived. She had a soft spot for dogs and rescued three of them. She enjoyed being outdoors and participating in activities such as 4-wheeling, paintballing, canoeing, and fishing. Staying with her father in Florida was always a cherished memory, and she looked forward to looking out at the ocean and fishing on the St. Johns River. Her favorite animal was the manatee, which was often found in the St. Johns River. She loved riding with her dad on his motorcycle. Giving her loved ones a hard time was a must for Sierra; she loved to tease them and was very funny. She was always on the go. She was her grandma’s tomboy, but was a beautiful lady inside and out. She was her mom’s heart and soul. She loved bowling, and her theme for her 30th birthday was bowling extravaganza! Sierra could make the best cupcakes and was very creative in her decorating skills. She was a big Cincinnati Bengals fan and had several jerseys. She loved Princess Diana and went to the exhibit with her mom when it came to Cincinnati.
Family meant the world to her. She loved family gatherings, reunions, and 4th of July at the house. During the Labor Day weekend, it was a family tradition with her mom to attend the WEBN Fireworks in Cincinnati. This year, the staff of WEBN took a shell, wrote Sierra’s name and a message on it, and then loaded it on the barge for the show during the evening. Thousands had attended the WEBN Fireworks, and they watched as two hearts intertwined lit up the sky, representing Sierra. It was a good representation of her whole life. She lit up a room with just her smile and touched every person she ever met, never meeting a stranger in the process.
Sierra was preceded in death by her father, Mitchell “Mick” Shaey Ballard; her grandfather, Jim Kerr; her great-granny, Viola Betty Lamb; her great-grandparents, Mark (Viola) Powell; her stepsister, Judi Gagnon; her uncle, James Jim “Bobby” Kerr; and her aunt, Sherri Williams. She is survived by her mother, Lisa (Doug Scurry) Lee; her grandmother, Dessie “Sue” Kerr; her brother, Mitchell (Ashley) Ballard Jr.; five step-brothers, Matthew Scurry, Dan (Katy) Scurry, Brad Scurry, Ryan Gagnon, Colton Ballard; step-sisters, Kris Gagnon; her three aunts, Brenda Ballard, Billie Meeks, and Rita; her nieces, Hannah, Maddison Kerr Miller; nephew, Chance Kerr Miller; her close cousins, Bridget Miller, Andrea (Danielle) Kerr, and Emma Kerr; many extended family members; and best friends, Jamie Hamm and Ashley Hody.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Temple of Praise in Miamisburg. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, at the church and a meal will follow. Pastor Sharon “Shari” Halton will be officiating. The family is asking those that attend the meal to bring a side dish and their own beverages. Burial will be at 10 am on Monday, September 8, at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens in Centerville. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made toward the funeral expenses. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
