Stephen D. Meador's Obituary
MEADOR, Stephen D., age 46, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Hospice of Dayton.
Steve graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’96. He loved motocross and NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) racing and spent more than half his working career making a living from his passion for racing. Specifically, he worked for Don Schumacher Racing in Indianapolis and traveled all over the country for them. In the past ten years, he worked as a carpenter in the custom woodworking trade. During the past few years, he proudly owned and operated his own business, Midwest Custom Woodworking, building custom cabinets, etc.
Caring, helpful, loving, and funny, Steve was often ornery and loved having fun. Motocross was not only an occupation but a lifetime hobby. While working in the industry, he usually took his motorbike on trips to enjoy the area on his bike. The dunes of Arizona were one of his favorite places to enjoy riding and something he often talked about fondly. Even after changing his occupation to custom woodworking, he kept his motorbike for fun. About eight years ago, he qualified for an Arena Cross event, which allowed him to compete nationally during a competition in Las Vegas. His other passion was boating. Always a fan of big engines and speed, Steve owned a Baja boat he thoroughly enjoyed taking to Lake Cumberland and the Ohio River. He enjoyed the tradition of attending the Lake Cumberland entertainment events with Amy, specifically the Poker Run, Thunder Run, and Raft Up events, which he planned his schedule around and rarely missed. On the Ohio River, they enjoyed floating on the water, viewing Friday night fireworks, pulling up to the numerous water-based restaurants, sitting behind Riverbend to hear the concerts, and listening to the Reds game on the radio from the water. He also enjoyed the tradition of traveling with Amy to New York City to see the Christmas lights and trips down to Florida. In Florida, they often visited Key West and Tampa while traveling up and down the coast, and Steve was even talked into visiting Disney World on several occasions. Of course, he always loved the holidays with his family at his mom’s house each year, which he always looked forward to. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his recent accomplishment of starting his custom woodworking business, which he often said his dad would have been proud of.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rogar Meador. He is survived by his significant other of eight years, Amy Burd; his mother, Sandra Hadley; his son, Brandon; one brother, Eric Meador; three sisters, Brigitte Dungan, Debbie Pennington, and Jennifer (Scott) Favorite; and several nieces, nephews, four aunts; two uncles; and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, May 18, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 1 PM on Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Joe Shutts officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward the funeral services by contacting the funeral home directly. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
