Stephen "Steve" E. Shutts' Obituary
Shutts, Stephen “Steve” E., age 75, of Blanchester and formerly of Lebanon and Clinton County, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Steve graduated from Lebanon High School. He was one of the original members, founding the Journeymen Motorcycle Club in 1978. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart. He is a former member of the Wilmington VFW. When he was younger, he was a talented painter and drawer. For over 40 years, he was well-known for his craftsmanship as a carpenter for new construction and for homeowners' remodeling projects.
Loving and caring, he was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He was the ultimate family man and a great friend. You knew you had a friend for life with Steve. He loved family get-togethers, especially during the holidays and Thanksgiving, when family speeches were made. Every Christmas Eve was made special when the entire family had quality time at his parents’ house. One of his proudest moments was being a grandpa.
He loved the outdoors and anything that was involved in being in the great outdoors. For over 18 years, Steve and his family would go camping in a tent at Long’s Retreat during the Labor Day Weekend. He enjoyed canoeing in the Little Miami and Bush Creek. He enjoyed shooting at the range in his country backyard. His passion was motorcycling. He loved cruising the “country blocks”. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love and pride he took in being a Marine, his family, and his role as a Journeymen.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Shutts; and two brothers, James Shutts and Gary Igo. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Teresa; one son, Jake (Selina) Edward Harry Shutts; his daughter, Cassie (Kyle) McGriff; eight grandchildren, Halley, Skyler, Zachary, Mikala, Sidney, Alexander, Anabelle, and Ryder; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike (Saundra) Shutts and David Shutts; and one sister, Linda Mottashed.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Full military honors will begin the funeral services at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Shutts will be officiating. A graveside service will be at 3 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. If desired, contributions may be made toward the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
