Steven D. Stanley's Obituary
STANLEY, Steven D., age 66, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023, at his residence.
A 1975 graduate of Waynesville High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Doris Stanley; one brother, Mark Stanley; and nephew, Ben Stanley. He was survived by his wife of 25 years, Kim; two daughters, Kelsi (Michael) Baird and Sydni (Drew) Ward; one grandson, Gregory, and one granddaughter, Kaisley; sister-in-law, Sharon Stanley; and two nephews, Nick Stanley and Joel Stanley.
Steve remained loyal and active with Wayne Local Schools throughout his life. He worked as a bus driver for over 20 years, only recently retiring in October. Steve used his love of photography and sports to work with most Waynesville sports programs to take team and individual pictures each season for the past 31 years. He was a former president of the Waynesville Athletic Boosters and ran the concession stands for several years. He also coached his daughters and grandson in many sports throughout the years.
Family-oriented, present, caring, and trustworthy are just a few things that describe Steve. He was well known for having an easygoing, humble, and quiet personality. He had a passion for photography, which he enjoyed professionally and personally. He focused much of his attention on shooting action sports and sports teams but also enjoyed wildlife photography. During his younger days, he traveled out west in search of unique wildlife and scenery. Steve loved horses and often took photos of his own and the ones he cared for at his boarding facility.
Aside from his children, Steve’s two surviving grandchildren, Gregory and Kaisley were the absolute highlights of his life. Steve shared many hobbies and activities with them that they will always hold close. Namely, his love for horses and his passion for sports. Steve had a love for basketball and closely followed Waynesville Basketball teams. He spent many years playing, coaching, watching, and supporting Waynesville basketball.
Steve and his family had a tradition of visiting the beach each year, specifically the beaches of Destin, Florida. Humorously, he often scoffed at the idea of visiting the beach each summer as he preferred visiting scenic locales off the beaten path. Still, he never hesitated to travel with his family and partake in the usual beach activities. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love of cowboy hats. Additionally, the family will always remember him for being a good cook, specifically the creamy egg noodles with mashed potatoes he made for Sydni and the chicken teriyaki with rice his family enjoyed.
Private family services. If desired, contributions may be made in Steve's memory to the Waynesville Athletic Boosters, 735 Dayton Rd., Waynesville, Ohio 45068. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
