Thomas R. Harvey's Obituary
HARVEY, Thomas R., age 94, of Wilmington and formerly of New Burlington, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Tom graduated from Spring Valley High School, class of ’49. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked 26 years for NCR, several years at Cincinnati Milacron, and several more years for the State of Ohio. In his later years, he worked for Collett Propane, ultimately retiring after more than 25 years of service for the local gas supplier. Tom was a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post 49.
Naturally funny, giving, supportive, helpful, and caring, Tom was extremely patriotic and friendly to everyone. More of a homebody, he loved the peace and quiet of his home by sitting in his garage with his wife, holding hands, watching the cars drive by. He also loved mowing his grass and keeping the property well-maintained. Another favorite pastime of Tom’s was walking his property and picking up the fallen walnuts from the trees, cleaning, preparing, and freezing them for enjoyment all year. He loved everything country western, including listening to traditional country & western music, reading western novels, and watching western movies on TV. In his earlier years, he played in a basketball league with his NCR co-workers. In addition, he enjoyed hunting. Throughout his life, he always loved going out into the woods in the spring in search of the delectable morel mushrooms that are popular in our area.
Tom enjoyed attending the Harvey family reunion, which was one of Tom’s favorite family traditions. While still working, he always said that he would enjoy taking a nap once he retired, which certainly became another one of his favorite traditions in the later years. Playing cards with friends also became a favorite activity for Tom during his life. Among many things, Tom will be remembered for how much he loved his country, always proudly displaying the American flag in front of his home. He will also be remembered for his endless support of various military organizations, including the VFW, USO, DAV, and the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice, in 2004; one granddaughter, Heaven; a great-grandson, Oaklen; two brothers, Bill and Wilson “Bub” Harvey; and his sister, Loraine McCoy. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 15 years, Joey; son, Matt (Debbie) Harvey; daughter, Linda (Norman) Knoth; five grandchildren, Rebekah (Joseph) Carman, Carissa (Tyler) Brandenburg, Kenneth (Melisa) Younker, Jennifer McCormick, and Bill Younker; 17 great-grandchildren, Riley and Devin Carman, Gage and Peyton Brandenburg, Anthony and Chelsea Nadeau, Peyton and Paige Younker, Kacy Boldman, Mathew Younker, Andrew Combs, Daniel and Jillian McCormick, Kelcee Johnson, and Trenton, Gabriel, and Mira Younker; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
