Vilis Bers' Obituary
BERS, Vilis, age 87, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Dayton VA Hospice.
Vilis was born in Latvia on September 13, 1936, to Janis and Anna Bers. He honorably served in the United States Army, where he earned a Good Conduct medal. In his younger years, he enjoyed the great outdoors. Some of his favorite hobbies were sailing, camping, and cycling. For over 26 years, he enjoyed singing in the choir. With his determination to do the best he could, Vilis excelled in his career as an engineer. In addition, he had a love of model trains and classic cars. He found such joy and inspiration as a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Wilmington, Ohio. His friends will remember him as a kind man.
He was preceded in death by his bonus son, Craig Albery; his parents, Janis and Anna Bers; and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of four years, Ellen; one son, Eriks (Kimberlee) Bers; bonus daughter, Jill (Joe) Wood; two grandchildren, Derick Bers and Ashley (Ryan); bonus granddaughters who called him “Poppa Vilis”, Julia and Jordan; and five great-grandchildren, Haylee, Laylah, Brayson, Cayden, Raylynn.
